Online Gaming Conferences 101: A manual for new (female) employees

During my brief Casino City hiatus, something very exciting happened. We hired someone to join the Online Casino City/GPWA team and she starts three days before Pokerconference.com and CAP Spring Break in Cyprus. Yes, "she", and yes, she is coming to Cyprus. As her mentor and manager, it is my job to take her under my wing, and of course, let her know what she is in for and how to handle it. A "warning" if you will. Considering I only have three days to spend with this lovely lady before our departure, I have taken it upon myself to create a conference manual for her, complete with pointers, warnings, pictures and names. For those of you who are curious and want to learn from me, I have included several snippets of information below for your reading pleasure.

1)"Networking" is another word for "going out and getting hammered".
This industry is notorious for its extremely fun parties, and the truth of the matter is, the parties are where most of our business is conducted. The exhibit hall hours are most useful for justifying the conference to your management, and most importantly, for sharing tales with others about the night before.

2)Stay away from Gambling 911 photographers and reporters.
See, I learned this lesson the hard way. I'm pretty sure that's all I need to say here.

3)Beware of nice looking Swedes, Casino City Eric included.
Don't let these guys fool you! They waltz into the exhibit hall bright and early each day looking sharp, dressed in some outfit that came straight out of Prada. However, should you choose to "network" with this crew, you are in it for the long haul.

4)There are many, many, many more men in this industry than women.
But don't let it scare you, they are harmless. Just ignore them.

5)Do not schedule meetings after midnight. Period.
I know that all new employees at their first conference want to impress and be regarded as ambitious and hard working. This is all well and good, but please- I beg of you- don't fall for the late night meeting trick!! Nothing good will come out of it, I promise.

Rebecca Liggero

Rebecca Liggero, a native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, has always loved meeting new people, building relationships, and traveling the world – perfect qualities for someone who, since early 2005, has won many friends and influenced countless people in the worldwide online gaming community.

After graduating from Bates College with a degree in psychology, Rebecca spent four years in Washington, DC, working in relationship management, dreaming all the while about someday making it big in online gaming. After turning down an opportunity to live in New Zealand, she moved back to Boston and signed on as Senior Account Manager for Casino City – the beginning of a dream come true!

Rebecca’s work on behalf of Casino City (and later for the GPWA as well) took her to trade shows and conferences everywhere – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Montreal, London, Las Vegas, Macau and many other ports of call – and along the way she began chronicling her incredible around-the-clock adventures in a wildly entertaining and industry-savvy weekly column that quickly became – and still remains – must reading for everyone who is anyone in online gaming. Following almost three years with the Casino City team, Rebecca spent a few months at Everest Affiliates where she was the Brand Manager of the affiliate program. While working on “the other side,” she realized that she truly missed her weekly column and the affiliate side of the business and decided to return to the Casino City family.

Rebecca resides in South Boston and can often be found jogging around the city and hanging out with the Irish at the local pubs. If you don’t spot her there, she’s probably over at Logan International Airport, her second home.
